Windows 10 has stopped getting updates

Microsoft ended free security updates for Windows 10 in October 2025. Here's what that means and what your options are.

What changed

Windows 10 no longer gets free security updates. The computer still works, but new weaknesses won't be fixed, which matters most if you bank, shop or use email on it.

Your options

  • Upgrade to Windows 11 if your computer is eligible. It's free, and I can do it with your files intact.
  • Replace the computer if it's too old for Windows 11. I'll help you choose something sensible, not the most expensive thing.
  • Keep using it carefully for a short while if you must: stay offline for banking, keep antivirus updated and avoid unknown links. It's a stop-gap, not a plan.

Not sure whether yours qualifies?

Tell me the make and model, or I can check it remotely. It takes a few minutes and costs nothing to ask.

Typical price

Upgrade checks are quick. A Windows reinstall or tune-up is typically £60–£120. Guide prices based on typical UK rates. Parts are extra where needed, and your exact price is confirmed before any work starts. See all prices.

Questions

Is my Windows 10 computer unsafe now?

It's more exposed over time. Keep it updated, use good antivirus, take care with email links and plan your upgrade.

Will I lose my files if I upgrade?

An upgrade normally keeps them, but I make a backup first so nothing depends on that.

Not sure what's wrong?

Tell me what the computer is doing. I'll say what I think it is and what it should cost, before you commit to anything.
